Puppy Chow

Puppy Chow

Quick and easy to make. Great for young kids to help in the kitchen.

Tips and Tricks:

Let the mixture cool just a bit before adding the powdered sugar. If it is still too hot it will just melt the powdered sugar instead of coating as desired.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 6 cups Rice Chex cereal
  • 1 ½ to 2 cups powdered sugar

Supplies

  • Large microwave safe bowl
  • Spatula
  • Gallon Ziplock Bag
  • Parchment Paper
  • Cookie Sheet

Instructions

  1. Place 1 cup chocolate chips, 1/2 cup peanut butter, and 1/4 cup butter in a large microwave safe bowl. Microwave on high for 1 minute. Remove the bowl from the microwave and stir. Put the bowl back into the microwave and heat for an additional 30 seconds or until mixture is smooth when stirred. Add 1 tsp vanilla extract and stir again.
  2. Add the cereal to the mixture 2 cups at a time and gently stir until all 6 cups of the cereal are evenly coated. Let the mixture cool 1-3 minutes.
  3. Pour the coated cereal into a large Gallon Ziploc bag. Add 1 1/2 - 2 cup of powdered sugar. Seal the bag and shake until the cereal is well coated. Spread on parchment paper on cookie sheet. Let sit until cool and chocolate is set.
  4. Store the puppy chow in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks. If it is warm in your kitchen, store the puppy chow in the refrigerator.
