Puppy Chow
Quick and easy to make. Great for young kids to help in the kitchen.
Tips and Tricks:
Let the mixture cool just a bit before adding the powdered sugar. If it is still too hot it will just melt the powdered sugar instead of coating as desired.
Ingredients
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 6 cups Rice Chex cereal
- 1 ½ to 2 cups powdered sugar
Supplies
- Large microwave safe bowl
- Spatula
- Gallon Ziplock Bag
- Parchment Paper
- Cookie Sheet
Instructions
- Place 1 cup chocolate chips, 1/2 cup peanut butter, and 1/4 cup butter in a large microwave safe bowl. Microwave on high for 1 minute. Remove the bowl from the microwave and stir. Put the bowl back into the microwave and heat for an additional 30 seconds or until mixture is smooth when stirred. Add 1 tsp vanilla extract and stir again.
- Add the cereal to the mixture 2 cups at a time and gently stir until all 6 cups of the cereal are evenly coated. Let the mixture cool 1-3 minutes.
- Pour the coated cereal into a large Gallon Ziploc bag. Add 1 1/2 - 2 cup of powdered sugar. Seal the bag and shake until the cereal is well coated. Spread on parchment paper on cookie sheet. Let sit until cool and chocolate is set.
- Store the puppy chow in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks. If it is warm in your kitchen, store the puppy chow in the refrigerator.
